Mobile poker sites

With the popularity of mobile phone and communication devices experiencing an absolute boom, it's no surprise that some of the best online poker sites have chosen to offer mobile gaming platforms to their players.

This is very much an emerging market but one that is taking the poker community by storm and is sure to grow even further in the next few years. More and more of us own 'smartphones' such as Androids, iPhones and Blackberries - and of course tablet computing through such models as the Apple iPad are getting increasingly popular too. As well as offering 24/7 internet and telephony communication to their owners, they're becoming more and more popular to play games on - specifically playing games and gambling for real money. Mobile poker is very much tipped to be the 'next big thing' in the poker world.

For us poker players, we love to play and we want to play whenever we want, wherever we want. The good news is that the very best poker sites are now offering mobile poker to their players, including PokerStars and Switch Poker.

Mobile poker sites

Switch Poker are actually a specialist poker room providing top class mobile poker for a range of devices including iPhone and Android devices. There's a huge €600 welcome bonus up for grabs on this site which makes it even more attractive.

PokerStars, as the biggest online poker site in the world, not surprisingly also have a top quality mobile poker offering. This is available for Android 2.2 (e.g. Samsung Galaxy, Motorola Droid RAZR, HTC Sensation, etc,), iPad, iPod touch and iPhone devices and means you can play wherever you are in the world around the clock. They also offer a bonus for opening a new PokerStars account, of up to $600. So as you can see, there's some great money to be made here.

Certainly something you should bear in mind with mobile poker is how soft the competition is - many professionals (or 'grinders' as they're sometimes known) avoid mobile poker as they need to play an insane amount of games. What this means is on mobile poker, especially with Switch Poker, there's an awful lot of recreational players online at any one time, who are normally just playing for fun rather than to make money. So if you're in any way a decent poker player (we're sure you are :) ) there is some very nice money to be made from playing real money mobile poker.

One of the great things about being able to play on your mobile is it means you can still play the same cash games, SNGs and MTTs that you'd be able to play anyway on your PC or laptop, so you can get more hands or games in per month, with of course the flexibility that you can play wherever you are. I love being able to play some poker on my morning commute to work on my iPad, for example. It's fun, it's convenient and it's easy to make money from - what more could you ask for?

How to play mobile poker

To start playing for real money, you'll need an account on the site. If you already have an account (e.g. with PokerStars) then you're good to go - you just need to download and install the mobile poker software client on your preferred device. You can either navigate to the poker site on your mobile device, or, in the case of PokerStars mobile, you should be able to find it in the 'app store'. It's a quick download, it's dead easy to install and you can be up and running in a matter of minutes.

The future of mobile poker

Online poker is a growing, ever changing market - so it's impossible to predict where things are going to be in, say, a year from now. One thing's for sure though - mobile poker is here to stay and we're expecting during this year to see plenty more online poker sites launching mobile arms of their business. This is great news all around - it gives you as a player more opportunity to play poker, and also pretty much guarantees there's going to be some really weak competition and fish around for you to take money from!

Most of all, have fun with mobile poker - be sure to check out both Switch Poker and the PokerStars offerings, they're both excellent quality. Good luck at the tables!
